Aspen View Veterinary Hospital

The mission of Aspen View Veterinary Hospital is to strive for excellence in veterinary care.  This involves a commitment to providing ethical, high quality, and compassionate internal medicine and surgical services.  We are devoted to fostering the human/animal bond.  We are dedicated to excellence in client service by being present for our clients and providing quality care in an efficient manner.  We strive to be leaders and innovators in our approach to veterinary care.  This includes providing a stimulating, challenging and supportive work environment.  We encourage our employees to choose a positive attitude and find fun in their work day while excelling as the professionals that they are.

We have numerous patients that have found a special place in each of our hearts and some of those that we remember for their individual talents.  To name a few, a Siamese that greeted us by barking, numerous dogs that love to carry their leashes for us, and some that inspire us to do what we do.

We offer medical and surgical services for the Pikes Peak Humane Society, Teller County Humane Society, Dumb Friends League, Lucky Dog Rescue, Mile High Lab Mission, Great Dane Rescue, Visla Rescue, and the Mile High Lab Rescue, and  Wild Blue Animal Rescue. We do honor the free examination certificates (valid 5 days from adoption,) rabies certificates and spay or neuter certificates.

I had the privilege of growing up around a variety of pets.  The fondness encouraged me to become a veterinarian.  I received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1983.  Following graduation, I worked at a small animal and equine veterinary hospital in Upper Hutt, New Zealand before coming to Colorado Springs in 1985.  I was soon practicing at Academy Acres Veterinary Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian then quickly moved onto being partial owner in taking care of cats, ferrets, dogs, rabbits, and reptiles.  In March 2000, Dr. Schrepel and I joined partnership to open Aspen View Veterinary Hospital.  I enjoy internal medicine and surgery, as well as working with exotic reptile species.
My wife and two boys keep me busy outside of the hospital with various sporting activities and school.  We share our home with a rescued Soft Coat Wheaton terrier named Finnigan.  When not working with animals I enjoy watching my boys play hockey and lacrosse.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kansas in 1981 I spent 7 years as a practicing Certified Public Accountant working first in Kansas City, Missouri and then in Durango, Colorado.  In 1989 I returned to school at Colorado State University where I completed a second Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Science followed by a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1994.  School was followed by six years working in veterinary practices in Wenatchee, Washington and Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In March 2000, Dr. Chmelka and I joined partnership and founded Aspen View Veterinary Hospital, P.C..
In addition to my commitment to my many canine and feline patients, I also have a fondness for caring for rabbits.  I take a special interest in pain management, and in strengthening the human-animal bond.  My current professional memberships include the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, the Colorado Springs Area Veterinary Society, and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
I share my life with veterinarian, Dr. Laurie Clauss.  Together we love and attempt to inspire three dazzling adult children as they pursue their passions in universities throughout the country.  We also share our home with a Pit bull mix and Westie mix rescues, and several cats (a number that is ever changing as we both work with rescue groups and the Humane Society).  My wife and I are vegetarians and enjoy exploring new culinary ideas, and travel whenever we get the chance.

I am originally from the Gulf Coast of Florida; I earned my DVM at St. Matthew’s University in Grand Cayman, and previously practiced veterinary medicine in Southeast Alaska and Montana before moving to Colorado in May 2014.  I enjoy challenging internal medicine cases and soft tissue surgery; however, my true passion in veterinary medicine is ultrasonography.
Outside of work I enjoy hiking and exploring Colorado with my wife Melissa and my dog Harper.  I devote countless hours attempting to trick a fish into believing a metal hook and a few hairs and feathers is an edible insect.
I look forward to being able to meet all of you and provide the highest quality of care to your beloved family members.

I was born and raised in Colorado and graduated here in 1999.  After graduation I married and traveled for the next 10 years with my husband as he pursued his Air Force career.  I graduated from the University of Texas in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing.  I worked as an emergency room nurse for a year before starting a family.  To have more family time with my new found family of 6 (4 adopted nephews/and a niece I switched my career to the veterinary field.  I worked as a veterinary receptionist in West Virginia in 2005 and have enjoyed helping pets and their owners ever since.  There is a certain joy that comes from knowing you have satisfied a client because of the top notch care provided to them and their pets.
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping up with their various activities as well as, spending time with my pet family which consists of Huskie’s, Rottweiler’s, Malamute’s, a Chihuahua, and cats.

I was born in California and moved around for a bit before returning there for another 10 years.  I moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 where I finished high school.  I worked a number of odd jobs before pursuing the Veterinary Technician career.  In enrolled in Pima Medical Institute to pursue rehabilitation and wildlife conservation.  After experiencing the medical side of dealing with animals and the interaction I felt I needed to follow the path to small animal veterinary medicine.  My plans are to continue my education and gain my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine through CSU.  I currently have a black German Shepherd named Lodi and a Tabby cat named Killian.  I look forward to being able to interact with and provide the best care for both the clients and animals at Aspen View!

I am a native of Colorado Springs.  I grew up around both cats and dogs and it only facilitated my interest in learning more about animals.  I have had a few exotic pets as well including a Chinchilla and a Sugar Glider.  Currently my son and I share our home with a Great Dane.  One of my favorite things to do is handle anesthetic procedures.  It's so fulfilling to be able to safely help an animal go under anesthesia and be the first person they see when waking.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family.  I am eager to get to know all of you and help provide the best care for your furry family.

I was born and raised in the Air Force, but Colorado has been my home since 2000. Growing up in a house full of animals is one of my greatest blessings. I obtained my BS in Equine Sciences and Business from Colorado State University, and I am also a Certified Canine Massage Provider. I was an avid competitor in dog agility until my dog retired, and I am still passionate about play-based dog training. When I am not at Aspen View, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, pet photography, cooking and reading. Our furry family includes one dog, four cats and a guinea pig. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

I worked at Aspen View 7 years ago as an assistant, but took some time off and had two kids with my husband, Bryan.  I returned to the practice in 2016 to continue my love for working in the veterinary field. My husband and I practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in our spare time, and I am also a Girl Scout leader and spend a lot of time on the weekends attending events and helping my daughter earn badges. As a family, we love cats and currently have four- two energetic kittens and two seniors.  I am excited to meet with you and your pets!
